The Blessing

By Clint Chapman

Maranatha Fellowship

I want to share with all readers what the Lord has put upon my heart the last few months.  He has told me that we are in a season of blessing.  He has led me to scriptures about the blessing of the Lord and all of its benefits.  Right now, as I am beginning to write this article, I have just found out the injury results from my son from the first football scrimmage.  It wasn’t the result we were wanting and so to be honest, it didn’t put me in a very good mood.  But what has transpired throughout the day was such a blessing.

People began to call me and text me, and their calls and texts encouraged me.  They didn’t know the report that I knew, but they felt led to call or text.  I am thankful for how God cares about us even when we are down.  The Lord showed me that my circumstances do not change His blessings.  But my attitude can determine if I choose to walk in a blessing or miss it.  What a blessing it was to be encouraged.

In one conversation I had with someone today, through frustration I said “What am I doing wrong?”  And the person on the other end said, “You know it’s about what you are doing right!”  and they were right.  When God blesses us, it can never be taken back.  It can’t be changed.  Jesus Christ is a blessing that will never die on the cross again.  It is Finished!

In Genesis chapter 27 is the story of Jacob and Esau.  Isaac their father is getting close to his end of life, and he wanted to bless his sons before he died.  Esau was the first born, so Isaac gave him instructions to go hunt some game for him and make him a savory dish.

Rebekah overheard what Isaac had said to Esau and she made a plan for Jacob to imitate his older brother and receive the blessing because Rebekah favored Jacob.  So Jacob went out and killed some goats and made a savory dish and brought it into the house.  He then put the goat skins upon his flesh because Esau was a very hairy man, and if his father, whose eyes were dim, would touch him, he would think he was his older brother Esau.

So Jacob dressed as his brother, and smelling like a hunter, brings in his savory dish to Isaac.  And Isaac says, “Come close to me so I may touch you my son to determine if you are Esau.  So Jacob approached and because of the goats skin, Isaac mistaked him for Esau.  And Isaac gave Jacob this blessing:

“May peoples serve you,

And nations bow down to you;

Be lord and master over your brothers,

And may your mother’s sons bow down to you.

May those who curse you be cursed,

And may those who bless you be blessed.”

When Esau came in later and approached his father with his savory dish, he found out that Jacob had already been with his father and received the blessing.  The word says Isaac  trembled violently when he realized Jacob had received the blessing.  He knew that he could not take the blessing back.

The point of this story is that you cannot take back a blessing.  We can break a curse, but we can’t break a blessing.  So I have been speaking blessings over myself and my family every day.  There are so many good stories about how God blesses his beloved that I don’t have the room to discuss, but I would like to say blessings upon all who read this article in the mighty name of Jesus.  Another key to a blessing is saying yes and receiving it.  God Bless.
