Lifelong Albany resident, Priscilla Gates, age 84, entered her Heavenly Home on Oct. 4, 2019.  Services were held at the First Christian Church on the morning of Tuesday, Oct, 8 with Pastor Brad McBee officiating. Interment followed in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Born in the Stamford Hospital on March 21, 1935, to George Robert Howsley and Lucy Duncan Howsley, Priscilla Ann was a member of a longtime Shackelford County pioneering family.

She graduated from Albany High School, Class of 1952. To further her education, Priscilla attended Draughon’s Business School.

On Feb. 6, 1952, she married Rubert Walter Gates in Albany. The Gates family made their home in Albany where they would rear their four children.

As a “Northside Mother,” the door of Gates’ home was always open to their children’s friends, many of whom Priscilla claimed as bonus children.

She stayed busy with her children’s activities and worked for King Abstract, Shackelford County Sheriff’s Office, and Albany Abstract. She also enjoyed the company of her many friends through Tuesday Night Group, meeting for game night or church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, James Albert Howsley; and only daughter, Cindy Lu Gates Miller.

Priscilla is survived by three sons R.W. Gates and wife, Pam of Tomball, Rob Gates and wife, Kristy of Rockwall and Jim Gates and wife, Stacey of Rhome; one son-in-law, James Miller of Brownwood; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
