Patricia Newman, age 79 of Abilene, passed away Thursday, Apr. 28, 2022. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 5 in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene with Jeff Pleasant officiating. Services have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.
Patricia Gayle Patterson was born Dec. 2, 1942 in Los Angeles, California to Guy Patterson and Pauline Ash Patterson. She grew up in Albany and attended First Baptist Church as a child.
Patricia graduated from Albany High School in 1961. After high school, she attended McMurry University and the University of North Texas, where she studied special education.
In 1965, Patricia married Wylie Austin Newman in Abilene. Patricia spent her adult life in Abilene where she was active in the Methodist Church. She loved sports, especially coaching her daughters in UGSA softball when they were younger. She was an avid San Antonio Spurs fan and enjoyed spending time at the lake during the summer.
Patricia worked as a special education teacher at the Abilene State School for many years until her retirement. She made an impact on many lives during her time there. One of her greatest joys in life was being a Nana to her granddaughters, and she loved spending time with them and watching them grow.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wylie Newman; one brother, Butch Patterson; and one granddaughter, Taylor Plank.
Patricia is survived by her daughters, Vicki Lynn Plank of Abilene, Lori Femiak and husband Brad of Mascoutah, Illinois; two brothers, Les Patterson and wife Lisa of Breckenridge, David Patterson and wife Lori of Cisco; three grandchildren, Cheyenne Plank, Dakota Plank, Nikki Femiak; and numerous nieces and nephews.
