LARRY BONNER

Larry Varnelle Bonner, 72, of Albany died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018 at his home.

A graveside service was held Monday, Aug. 13, 2018 in the Newburg Cemetery (south of Comanche) with Chaplain Charles Goodnight officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. 

Larry was born April 17, 1946 in Texarkana, Arkansas. He graduated from Comanche High School and later married Leslie Hallmark in Comanche on Oct. 1, 1964. 

Larry was a DPS Officer from 1970 until 1978 and Shackelford County Sheriff from 1992 until 2000. In 2010 he retired from working security for Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Albany and the Albany Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Leslie Bonner of Albany; son Jimmy Bonner and wife Debbie of Aledo; daughter Lea Ann Benton and husband Chris of Fort Worth; siblings, Debbie Clement and husband Joe of Spearman, Jack Boyd and wife Carlene of Lubbock, and Janice Chandler and husband Rusty of Stephenville; four grandchildren, Davis Benton and Skylar Benton, both of Fort Worth, and Mason Bonner and Jacob Bonner, both of Aledo; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Lewis (Curly) and Annie Lou Boyd and a nephew Tony Clement.
