J.E. Mikeska, Jr., M.D., age 93 of Albany, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2020. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Dec. 8 in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. 

Joe Edward Mikeska, Jr. was born to Joe and Lillie (Malechek) Mikeska on Oct. 30, 1927 in Concho County, Texas. His soul departed from this planet on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020 at 9:00 p.m.

He graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1957 and practiced medicine for 58 years before retiring. He was a country doctor who loved God, his family, people, his country, practice of medicine, and the land.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven Dwayne Mikeska; one daughter, Rebecca Jane Rodriguez; three sisters, Fern Mikeska, Ivey Dell Mikeska, and Glyn Rose Turney.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Gayle Mikeska; five daughters and two sons, Gayl Brotherton Laird and husband Lance of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Debera Diane Burton of Gorman, Michael Ray Mikeska and wife Cherry of Abilene, Mary Katherine Shick and husband Glenn of Corpus Christi, Tina Marie Darby Webb and husband Gary of Albany, Joe Edward Mikeska III and wife Shelly of Pasadena, Maryland, and adopted daughter Burma Brummitt and husband Robert of Gorman; 13 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, a herd of great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The family would like to extend thanks to each of Doc’s caregivers who took such loving care of him: Christie Ferguson, Bailey Ferguson, Tammie Keese, Linda Davison, Kay Box and Amber Hull.
