James Curtis ­Sanders Jr. (Sandy or JC) age 73 of Lueders, went to be with the Lord and all of those loved ones who have passed before him on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. He was surrounded by his family in a circle of prayer.

Visitation will be held at Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home in Stamford, Texas on June 23, 2023 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held in the Ledbetter Cemetery in Throckmorton County on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.

James Sanders Jr. was born on June 9, 1950 in Lubbock, TX to Lanell and James Sanders Sr. He was the third of their five children. He graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1968. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1972. He married Tena Stark on May 3, 1981 in Throckmorton County.

James was a man of many talents who worked in many industries including, farming, ranching, welding, and in the oilfield. He retired from a 28-year career with Momentum Operating in 2017.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Lanell; his sister Donna Charles; his niece Missy Franklin; and grandson Harvey Terrell; along with numerous aunts and uncles.

Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife Tena Sanders; four children Billy Britt, Lisa and husband Doug Terrell, Jennifer and husband Tony Mims, Brandi and husband Bryan Chaves; three siblings, Mary and husband Jack Franklin, Kathy Salters, Joel and Carla Sanders, brother-in-law Bob Charles. His 12 grandchildren, Erika Head, Kevin Britt, Peyton Britt, Alec Britt, April Brendle, Erin Shack, Laramie Terrell, AJ Mims, Albany Mims, Ashlee Kuhn, Bry-Tim Chaves, and Carter James Chaves; and 13 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a Jesus follower, hardworking husband and father, a Trivia whiz and the best scrabble player known to man.  He was a great friend to many, surrogate father to a few and will be greatly missed. PD
