Harold Cox, age 88 of Albany, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024. Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 14 at Albany Cemetery with Pastor Paul Johnston officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Harold Gene Cox was born Jan. 9, 1936 in Pottsville, Texas to Carl Cox and Alice McPherson Cox. Mr. Cox proudly served in the United States Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged. He married Cleta Joy Mayfield in Lovington, New Mexico on April 7, 1955. Mr. Cox began his banking career in 1955 and served on the board of many banks, including First National Bank Albany/Breckenridge. He was a legend in the west Texas banking industry. Mr. Cox was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Albany Golf Club, and formerly served as mayor of Albany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice Cox; one son, Mel Cox; two brothers, Bill and Charles Cox; one sister, Patsy Shields; one son in law, Kenneth Stroud.

Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 69 years, Cleta Joy Cox; three children, Carol Stroud, Lisa Palmore and husband Randall, Jana Palmore and husband Lynn; two sisters, Peggie Penn, Lola Carr; one brother, Gary Cox; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren.
