Gerlinde Damith Lowe passed away at home Feb. 18, 2022,  after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Gerlinde Maria Damith was born Aug. 27, 1934 in Sudetenland to parents Wilhelm and Marie Damith. She was the seventh of nine children. At the young age of seven, her mother passed away and three years later her father also died.  The nine children were sent to live with aunts and uncles, Gerlinde joined Herman and Berta Kühuel,  a sister and brother in law in Nesselnbach, Germany.

Gerlinde met Hugh Lowe in Germany during the time he was serving in the United States Army. They had trouble communicating, but that did not deter him from asking her to a dance. She declined with the excuse of not knowing how to dance, to which he replied that he would teach her. She finally agreed, and they began dating. They continued to dance each time a band played Fraulein for many years to come.

Gerlinde traveled to the United States to join Hugh in 1957, and they were married at Trinity Lutheran Church on March 9, 1957. They continued to live in Albany while raising a family and running a successful business.

Gerlinde was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hugh Lowe, her parents and seven siblings.

She is survived by her daughter Debra Boyett and husband Jearl, son Dean Lowe and wife Leigh of Albany; grandchildren Joanie Bennett and husband Brian of Stephenville; Laci Cook and husband Jordan, Keelan Lowe, Kolby Lowe and wife Roary, all of Albany; great-granddaughters Baylor Bennett  and Ivy Lowe.

Services were Monday, Feb. 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albany followed by interment at Albany Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Albany, Texas or the donor’s favorite charity. PD
