GERALD BRADDY
Gerald Dean Braddy passed peacefully on Feb. 20, 2021. A viewing and celebration of his life was held at the First Christian Church of Albany, Tx on Mar. 1. Graveside services followed under the direction of Girdner Funeral Home of Abilene, Tx.
Gerald was born Feb. 16, 1946 to Berlin Louis and Mary “Pace” Braddy in Albany, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife of 54 years, Patsy Lynn Braddy.
Gerald, most affectionately known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, was a family man. He and Patsy shared one son, Larry, and two grandchildren, Kayla and Keylan.
Mr. Braddy was a lover of country music, especially traveling to watch his son sing and play the drums.
He was the patriarch of his family and everyone looked to him for his nod of approval. He was a strong, hardworking man, and infinitely loyal to those he called friends.
It was not uncommon for him to stop by with some kind of “treat” for his grandbabies or round up the family for a meal at one of his favorite restaurants.
His family affectionately recalls him as being the perpetual “early bird.” Poppy was always an hour early to any event or gathering, “for the good seats,” of course.
Mr. Braddy was a creature of habit and a sports enthusiast. His most favorite pasttime was attending and supporting the youth of Albany in all sporting events. His love of Albany sports was no casual thing, but rather a noteworthy source of his identity. To refer to him as merely a fan is inadequate; He was a true “Ragin’ Red” believer! He donned his red ballcap and traveled the state far and wide to watch the young people of Albany High compete.
From the practice fields, to his post game review at the coffee shop, Gerald reveled in Albany’s triumphs with his closest friends Larry Macon, Harold Cox, and Bobby Key. It has been said by many, the Albany Lions lost one of their most beloved and devoted fans.
Gerald is survived by two sisters and one brother, Brenda Christian and family, Stella Morgan and family, and Eugene Braddy; one son, Larry Braddy and girlfriend Rebecca Bridges of Clyde; two grandchildren, Kayla Cogburn and Keylan Braddy, both of Clyde; three great grandchildren, Aylin Braddy of Abilene, and Kendall and Camille Cogburn of Clyde; and a host of extended family and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the community for the outpouring of kind words, love, and prayers they have received. Also a special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Whitt and Miss Sue Breeden, for being such great companions to Gerald. PD
