Eugene (Gene) B. Creech, 79, of Abilene, formerly of Woodson, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021 in an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Woodson Church of Christ with Tommy Wade and Foy Owens officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Burial will follow in the Woodson Cemetery with Vernon Buse officiating.

Gene was born Feb. 7, 1941 in San Angelo to E. B. and Geraldine (Sparks) Creech. He excelled in school and was an All-State Football player in Sweetwater, where he graduated. Gene went to Odessa Junior College and then to University of Texas at Arlington, where he was on the Dean’s Honor Roll.

He worked in the bearing business until 1985, when he started his own business, C/S Bearing in Wichita Falls. The business also had stores in Lawton, Graham, Mineral Wells and Stephenville.

He later added America Industrial Supplies with his partner, Glen Spraggins. The company closed in 2002 and Gene semi-retired to his farm in Woodson. Gene and Aletha bought the place in 1999 and moved there in 2000.

Gene’s last several years had been spent enjoying his family, his farm and working part-time as a safety coordinator in the oil field. His work ethic is legendary with his family and friends. He did not miss a weeks work in 50 years.

He is survived by his wife Aletha Creech of Abilene; daughter, Sheri Creech Julian and husband Rex of Johnson, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Sandra Creech of Wichita Falls; three sisters, Peggy Encino of Conroe, Louise Parten of Georgia and Cathy Ricks of Denton; seven grandchildren, Kyle Buse, Vernon Buse, Justin Creech, Britt Cantrell, Chelsea Jones, Kamryn McFarland and Kaemyn McFarland; 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Les Creech and Russell (Rusty) Thomas Creech, grandson Leslie Eugene (Brew) Creech, Jr. and sister Betty Stone.
