Edna Mae Abbott, 96 passed away Aug. 27, 2020 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, FL from complications after testing positive for Corona Virus. She was born May 1, 1924 in Rule, Texas to John & Claura Dominey.

Edna Mae married Albert Gene Abbott of Anson in 1942 and moved to Albany after WWII. Daughter Teena was born September 1946.

She spent almost 70 years as an Albany resident and homemaker. She actively participated in local community events and was a ‘Strong Minded’ member of the Albany First Baptist Church.

She was known by local financial advisors as a shrewd businesswoman who would negotiate to the lowest tenth of a percentage point.

Edna Mae relocated to Panama City, FL in 2012 to be near her daughter and assisted living care. After her daughter’s death in 2017, she survived Hurricane Michael and transferred to Pensacola, FL. She told her nephew, “That was the worst tornado she had ever been in!”

She spoke often and favorably of the friends and family she had in and around Albany.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Travis Bill Dominey; husband Gene; and her daughter Teena Gene Abbott Carter.

She is survived by a granddaughter, three great grandchildren, and various nieces and nephews.

Funeral and/or memorial services are pending.

Contributions to local charities and organizations in Edna Mae’s memory are recommended!
