Donald Stilwell, age 86 of Albany, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020. Graveside funeral services with full military honors were held Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene with Dinty Bowman officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. 

Donald Leroy Stilwell was born May 20, 1933 in Breckenridge, Texas to parents Leroy Forest Stilwell and Nellie Marie Long Stilwell. 

He graduated from Albany High School and furthered his education with two years of college. 

Following college, Mr. Stilwell enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952. While in the Navy, Mr. Stilwell was stationed in Virginia and trained fellow officers how to inspect and repair airplanes. 

On July 12, 1957, following his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Mr. Stilwell married Barbara Joan Arnold in Albany. He worked as a mechanic and owned and operated his own garage, Stilwell & Son Garage until his retirement in 2009. 

In his free time, Mr. Stilwell enjoyed fishing, boating and driving race cars. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Stilwell is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan Stilwell of Albany; one daughter, Donna Lynn Gilstrap and husband Drexel “Dee”, Sr. of Pecos; one grandchild, Dalton Stilwell Gilstrap; two step-grandchildren, Tawnya and Drexel Dee Gilstrap.
