DIANA GAYLE MIKESKA

Diana Gayle Mikeska, age 86 of Albany, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 6 at First Methodist Church of Albany with Lance Thomas officiating. Interment followed at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Diana Gayle Walls was born to William Vincent and Melba (Farmer) Walls on July 10, 1937 in Baird, Texas. Her soul departed from this planet on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023 around 11 p.m.

She worked as a medical assistant for many years. Gayle was an avid Albany supporter, whether it was with school, the Fandangle, sports or in the community. She was involved with the Old Jail Art Center, The Aztec Theater and was the #1 Lions fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.E. Mikeska, Jr., M.D.; one daughter, Rebecca Jane Rodriguez; six brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by five daughters and two sons, Gayl Brotherton Laird and husband Lance of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Debera Diane Burton of Gorman, Michael Ray Mikeska and wife Cherry of Abilene, Mary Katherine Shick and husband Glenn of Corpus Christi, Tina Marie Darby Webb and husband Gary of Albany, Joe Edward Mikeska III and wife Shelly of Pasadena, Maryland, and adopted daughter, Burma Brummitt of Gorman; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend thanks to each of the caregivers who took such loving care of her.
