“Bill” Morrell
William Ray Morrell, 81, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
A graveside service was held on Monday, March 17 in the Albany Cemetery.
Bill Morrell was born June 30, 1943, in Stamford, Texas to Angela and Marshall “M.E.” Morrell. Bill grew up in Albany and graduated from Albany High School, where he helped lead the Albany Lions football team to itsfirst State Championship in 1960.
After graduating in 1961, Bill went to work in the oilfield where he developed a knack for knowing where to drill. He worked alongside his father, before branching out on his own, forming ‘WR Morrell Drilling Company’.
Bill was an avid domino and card player and would often host riveting games at his shop where many friends would gather to catch up on life and try to win a game, most of the time with no luck. He especially enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with his wife and would conveniently leave out certain rules of the game until they benefited him. He loved to play golf, hunt, and pull a good prank on any unwitting soul.
Everyone who knew Bill has a story to tell. He was a character and he was affectionately called “Uncle Bull” by those who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Angela and Marshall Morrell.
Bill is survived by his wife of 18 years, Rhonda Morrell; two children, son, William “Sonny” Morrell and daughter, Melanie and husband Brian Gamble and their son, Connor; one step-son, Nathan White and wife Sarai and their children; one sister, Ann and husband Steve Riley and their children.
Memorials may be made in Bill’s honor to the NRA, Wounded Warrior Project, and CBN Israel.
