Barbara Galbreath, 70 of Albany passed away Monday morning, May 26 after a long-protracted illness. She was surrounded by family and friends as she went into the arms of her Savior at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.
Memorial service will be held at the Methodist Church in Albany, Texas Saturday, May 31st at 1:00 p.m. Memorial service under the direction of Girdner Funeral Home with Tim Trimble officiating.
Barbara Jean Gallion was born to David Gallion and Betty June Tucker Gallion in Albany, Texas on September 1st 1954. She was later adopted by family members Clarence and Edna Carter, also of Albany, Texas. Barbara attained a nursing degree from Angelo State University and worked as a Registered Nurse first in San Angelo then later in Throckmorton. Her longest nursing tenure, however, was at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. She was caring and compassionate to the patients she served and very dedicated to her profession. Barbara loved her husband Lester Galbreath and together they raised Registered Quarter Horses and dairy goats in Fort Griffin and later in Albany. She loved to sing, and play the piano and be with her family. She attended church regularly and served her church, her family, her community and her profession well.
Barbara was preceded in death by her grandparents Wanda and J.A. Tucker of Albany, her parents David Gallion and Betty Townsend, her adoptive parents Clarence and Edna Carter of Albany, a brother Dell Gallion, 2 sisters Oneta Faye (Carter) Garvin and Nelda Sue Carter Stewart, and a stepson “Will” Lester William Galbreath Jr.
Barbara is survived by her husband Lester Galbreath, a stepson Stacey Galbreath, son Alan Sherman, daughter Jodi Sherman, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
