Zoo animals return for Story Hour
The Shackelford County Library’s summer Story Hour continues with upcoming Tuesday programs featuring live animals from the Abilene Zoo and hands-on crafts led by the Old Jail Art Center, as the weekly series moves through the remainder of June.
This week’s Story Hour session on June 9 included a leopard tortoise, rough plated lizard, tenrec and Swainson’s hawk, along with a coordinating animal journal craft for participating children.
Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10 a.m. and runs through the end of June, combining live animal presentations from the Abilene Zoo with educational storytelling and crafts coordinated by Old Jail Art Center staff.
The program is open to all children in the community, and preregistration is not required, though children must be accompanied by an adult.
The Summer Reading Program is also ongoing through July 31, offering incentives for readers through high school who meet their age-group goals. Participants who complete requirements receive free pizza, and reading cards are available at the library. Only physical books checked out from the Shackelford County Library count toward totals.
