Live music returns to Aztec this winter
A new music series is coming to Albany this winter as the Aztec Theater prepares to host The Aztec Sessions, a lineup of concerts sponsored and organized by Goodnight Steakhouse and Saloon. The downtown venue has seen steady activity during the past several years, and the new series is intended to give Albany a consistent schedule of live music during the winter months.
Goodnights has already established itself as a regular supporter of live music through its dancehall room, where it hosts weekend shows and the popular Wednesday Pickin’ Party. With the strong turnout at those events, the restaurant began exploring ways to bring larger acts to town and determined that the historic Aztec Theater was the ideal setting.Goodnights will also provide a cash bar inside the theater, available with the one-time purchase of an event cup.
Two concerts have been announced to start the series. The first show, set for December 19, will feature Texas country standout Gary P. Nunn. Nunn has been a fixture in the Texas music scene for decades and is known for songs such as “London Homesick Blues.”
Because the show falls close to Christmas, the performance will follow a “Christmas Time in Texas” theme with a mix of holiday music and classic Gary P. favorites.
The second show will bring Micky and the Motorcars to the Aztec on February 27, 2026. The band began in Idaho before moving to Austin and has become a regular part of the Red Dirt and Americana circuit. Founding members Micky and Gary Braun come from a well-known musical family and are brothers of Cody and Willy Braun of Reckless Kelly. The group has toured widely and built a solid following with its blend of country, rock, and Americana.
More concerts for The Aztec Sessions are being planned and will be announced as they are confirmed.
