Lions scorch Blizzards in 54-0 home rout

The Albany Lions rolled to a 54-0 victory over the Winters Blizzards Friday night at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium, delivering what head coach Denney Faith called the team’s “best performance all the way through” this season.

Albany’s offense and defense worked in perfect sync, overwhelming Winters on both sides of the ball. The Lions outgained the Blizzards 366 yards to 31 and limited the visitors to just two first downs. Winters managed only 22 rushing yards and 9 passing yards, while Albany tallied 197 on the ground and 169 through the air.

“It was good, complementary football,” Faith said. “The defense played really well with some turnovers and held them to less than 100 yards, and I thought offensively we played the way we’re capable of—pretty balanced with the running game and passing game.”

Quarterback Clay Chapman completed 11 of 14 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Huffman Heatly led the receiving corps with 77 yards and a touchdown, while Jaxson Street caught four passes for 50 yards and another score. Calhan Fairchild added 44 yards receiving.

The Lions’ rushing attack featured a balanced group led by Breylon Billington, who ran for 60 yards and four touchdowns, and Jakobi Roberson, who added 44 yards. Woods Peterson contributed 42 yards, Chapman added 12 more on the ground, and JV running back Sam Tidwell ran for 11 yards with one touchdown.

Faith noted the team’s offense has “hit its stride” over the past two weeks after struggling early in the season. “We’ve got everybody healthy for the most part and have had good continuity in practice,” he said. “Our timing is better, and that’s really showing up on Friday nights.”

The lopsided score also allowed several JV players to get valuable experience in the varsity lineup. “It’s always good when you can get those guys a little bit of experience on a Friday night,” Faith said. “They work hard during the week and deserve that opportunity.”

Looking ahead, Albany (now 2–0 in district play) travels to Cross Plains this Friday, Oct. 24, for what Faith expects to be a challenging matchup. “Anytime you have to go there, it’s a tough venue,” he said. “They’re desperate for a win to make the playoffs, so we’re expecting their best effort.”
