The Bulldog Report - August 7, 2025
Moran ISD opened the 2025-26 school year Monday, Aug. 4, with 73 students present for the first day of classes.
According to office staff member Jeannie Ten Cate, three more students were added to the rolls Tuesday, bringing the total to 76.
The district continues its four-day school week for the new year. Classes are held Monday through Thursday, with Fridays off.
There will be no school on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day.
New Cell Phone Policy
A new state law – House Bill 1481 – has prompted changes to Moran’s student electronics policy that parents need to be aware of.
The law requires school districts to ban student use of personal devices, including cell phones, tablets, earbuds, headphones, smartwatches, and other communication tools during instructional hours.
At Moran ISD, students are now required to turn off their devices and leave them in the front office each morning. The devices will be secured and returned to students at the end of the day.
Football Season Begins
Moran’s football team took the field this week with seven athletes – three sophomores and four freshmen – suiting up for the season.
“Our first practice went well and we were really pleased with the guys and their effort,” said head football coach John Hughes on Tuesday morning.
Fall athletes will be introduced during Meet the Bulldogs, scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at the football field.
A few hours after that, Moran will hold a Midnight Madness football practice at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, when teams are allowed to conduct contact drills in full pads.
No Varsity Volleyball Team
Because of a shortage of players, Moran ISD will not put a high school volleyball team on the court this season.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to fill a team,” said head coach Jo Hise. “We will, however, have two junior high teams.”
