Kids invited to join community VBS for fun, faith, and fellowship
Local churches and volunteers are coming together to host this year’s community Vacation Bible School, set for Sunday through Thursday, July 27–31. The event will take place from 5:30 to 8:20 p.m. each evening, with dinner served nightly for all participants.
This year’s VBS will offer age-appropriate programs for both younger and older children. Those who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade will meet at the First Baptist Church campus, while children age 3 and older (as of Sept. 1) will attend VBS at the Feed Store location.
Throughout the week, children will participate in a series of Bible-based activities and lessons designed to help them grow in their understanding of God’s Word. Each evening will be structured to include time for learning, singing, and fellowship, with meals provided at both sites.
The week concludes with Family Night on Thursday, July 31, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the FBC sanctuary. The event will feature a short program by the children, highlighting what they’ve learned during the week. Afterward, families are invited to stay for a fajita dinner and swimming at the Albany City Pool.
Organizers are encouraging local families to sign their children up and take part in the week-long program. Transportation assistance is available for those who need it. Parents or guardians may call or text Ginger Bumgardner at 325-660-5420 to request a ride or to ask questions about registration.
In preparation for the event, volunteers are needed to help get the church ready. Community members are invited to assist with decorations, classroom setup, and other preparations this week, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to noon each day.
VBS volunteer Tamberley Thomas is seeking items to help with a craft activity planned for Sunday night, July 27.
“I would like to ask if anyone has some items the kids could look at through the magnifiers we will create in crafts,” Thomas said. “I’m thinking like bugs in acrylic, flowers or butterflies.”
Items can be dropped off at the church that evening and picked up afterward, or arrangements can be made to deliver them to Thomas beforehand. She can be reached at 325-370-1887.
