City Pool to open Friday with free Splash Day
The City of Albany swimming pool will open Friday, May 30 with a free Splash Day from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The facility will continue to be open to the public on Tuesdays through Saturdays 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. through July, with Sunday hours 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Brittney Everett, who is managing the pool along with Savannah Maberry, reported that there are currently only 12 lifeguards certified to help with pool operations in addition to the two managers.
That shortage may affect pool hours, according to Everett.
“We will do the best we can, but there may be days that the pool is open but with limited capacity,” Everett said.
She added that the pool will operate with the posted schedule for a couple of weeks; then she and Maberry will reevaluate to see how the lifeguards are holding up under a heavier schedule. The weekly timetable could possibly be adjusted at that time.
“As of right now we plan to open and regulate like normal,” said Kenisha Lucas at Albany City Hall. “Lifeguards have successfully completed training and will be ready to open up for Splash Day on Friday.”
Lucas also said that time slots for after-hour rentals are almost gone.
“We are booking up pretty fast but still have some party slots available during the week,” Lucas said. “Almost all the weekend times are gone.”
Private party rentals at $200 per two-hour time block. To book a time slot, call City Hall at 325-762-3133. Pool rental fees must be paid at the time the pool is reserved.
