Car show brings big turnout

By Melinda L. Lucas

Following a postponement a month ago due to rain, the second consecutive year for that to happen, the 18th annual Albany Classic Car Show went off without a hitch last weekend under clear skies and fair temperatures.

Organizer Robert Snyder reported that close to 80 vehicles were entered in the show.

“The weather was almost perfect, and we ended up having fewer conflicts with other area shows that we would have with the original date,” Snyder said. “We are considering changing it permanently to May, probably the second Saturday.”

Snyder said that there was a lot of positive feedback from this year’s participants.

“We had people here who have come since the beginning and others who were here for the first time,” he continued. “Hopefully, the downtown stores and the food vendors benefitted.”

Several food trucks were “circled up” on the vacant lot behind the Bank Park so that visitors and local residents could order easily.

There was also a big turnout on Friday for the burnout at the Bank Park and hamburger supper fundraiser.

The show kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and was open to exhibitors of classics, antiques, hot rods, customs, and trucks, each receiving a goodie bag from sponsor Eagle Auto Parts.

“I really am appreciative of all the support we received, especially from Clear Fork Bank, our financial sponsor, and Eagle Auto Parts who has continued to donate goodie bags and door prizes over the years,” Snyder said. “Parsons Beef and Brookshires donated for the hamburgers, and I also had a lot of help from friends who all showed up. It takes a lot of people to handle registration, parking, and judging, and we couldn’t have this show without them.”

Snyder thanked the Albany Volunteer Fire Department for helping with the burnout by hosing down the street between participants.

Dean Olson of Brownwood again provided the music and sound system.

Complete results of the car show are as follows:
