Citywide cleanup set for Saturday
By Melinda L. Lucas
The City of Albany will hold its annual spring cleanup day this Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18, offering residents a chance to dispose of large and small unwanted items ahead of the summer’s visitor season.
“We will have a roll-off at the Chamber parking lot and a tire trailer as well this year,” said Kenisha Lucas with City Hall. “There will be a couple of city employees there during the day on saturday to help residents get items put away accordingly.”
Lucas asked that those taking trash after hours and on Sunday not overload the containers.
Also, it is anticipated that the tire trailer could fill by the end of the day on Saturday. Tractor tires will not be accepted.
The cleanup effort is timed to help beautify the city – particularly areas around Main Street – before out-of-town visitors arrive for the Fort Griffin Fandangle the last two weekends of June.
City officials reminded residents that certain items are prohibited in the regular trash containers, including paint, batteries, tires, refrigerators, and other appliances containing Freon.
For tire disposal, the city has partnered with the Leon Bosque Resource Conservation and Development Council to offer a dedicated tire trailer on site.
“There is no established limit,” said John Tate, a board member with the council. “It is possible that we could fill the 18-wheeler trailer that is coming, but we will not be limited on a ‘customer basis’.”
Tate emphasized that the opportunity is available to all residents of Shackelford County – not just those within city limits.
