Albany splits district games with tough loss, strong win

For the second week in a row, the Lions split district outings, losing a close 8-9 game against Hawley on April 1, then outscoring Haskell 14-4 in a make-up game on Monday, April 7 to start the second half of district action.
As of press time on Tuesday, Albany was 5-4-3 overall, 3-3 in district.
Albany hosted Anson on Tuesday, with those results to be published next week. The Lions will be on the road Friday, April 11, with a 7:00 p.m. start time in Stamford.
Coach David Fairchild commented that last week’s game against Hawley was a “heartbreaker” for the Lions.
“We lost in the bottom of the seventh after scoring six in the top of the inning to go up by one,” the coach said.
He added that Chip Chambers pitched well and kept the Lions in the game.
Calhan Fairchild had a big night at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double and triple, as well as bringing in three runs.
There never seemed to be a question about the outcome of Albany’s 14-4 win over Haskell, rescheduled to Monday night because of weather conditions on Friday.
The Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, then added three more runs in the third and six in the fifth. All of Haskell’s runs came in the third inning.
