Moran ISD hit the ground running this week in its return from spring break, startng with its Scholastic Book Fair, which concludes Thursday, March 27 (today).

The book fair included a family night on Tuesday, March 25.

On Tuesday and Thursday, Moran had students entered in the District 13-1A UIL Academic meet at Eula. Ellis Hise was in Ready Writing and Mathematics with Zeke Henson in Spelling and Social Studies.

The fifth six weeks ends Thursday, April 3 with the final grading period of the school year beginning Monday, April 7.

FFA News

The winter stock show season is winding down, but it’s not finished yet.

Moran FFA members spent their spring break week at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Rodeo Austin. Rayni Vinson exhibited her steer Friday, March 14 at Austin and Monday, March 17 at Houston.

Bradee Stautzenberger, who showed cattle in Houston last week, will be in Austin with her heifer this week.

Moran FFA competed Tuesday at the Cisco CDE and will attend contests Friday, March 28 at West Texas A&M in Canyon and Saturday, March 29 at Clarendon College.

On Wednesday, March 26, Texas FFA state officers visited Moran to give a presentation for students.

Sports Report

Moran students competed in three track meets at three age levels last week as they geared up for district competition.

The junior high district meet was held Monday, March 24 at Gordon. Results will be reported next week. The high school teams will compete Friday, March 28 at Zephyr and Monday, March 31 at the District 13-1A meet at Eula. Elementary students will be at May on Saturday, March 29.

Last week saw the junior high teams compete Tuesday, March 18 at Blanket, the high school teams on Thursday, March 20 at Blanket and elementary students on Saturday, March 22 at Santa Anna.

“It was a long week of track, but we did get a lot out of it,” coach John Hughes said.

The junior high meet at Blanket was a ribbon meet.

For the girls, Anna Alexander was third in the 100 and fifth in the 200. Kamelia Alexander was sixth in the 100 and fourth in the 200 in addition to competing in the long jump. Amelia York was third in the 100, sixth in the 400 and fourth in the 200.

Kelsey Rust, Jaelynn Courtney, Caliann Carroll and Kaylee Sanchez teamed for all three relays. Rust was also in the long jump and triple jump with Carroll in the long jump. Also competing were Emmie Hise in the 800, 1600, shot put and discus, Naomi Garza in the 1600, and Demi Sebree in the shot and discus.

For the boys, Christian Rodriguez was third in the long jump, second in the discus, fourth in the 110 hurdles and first in the 100. Landon Herrell was third in both the 100 and 200 and fourth in the shot put.

Also competing were Bentley McCullough (100, 200), Andy Barron (800, 1600, high jump), James Hise (800, 1600, long jump, triple jump), and James Carnegie (shot put).

In the high school meet, the Lady Bulldogs scored three points and the Bulldog scored one.

For the girls, Chelsea Thurman was fifth in the shot put and competed in the discus. Khloe Red Bear was sixth in the 300 hurdles and competed in the 10 hurdles and 400 relay. Other relay members were Brielle Logan, Jayla Bussell and Lizzie Creek. All three also ran the 100 and 200. Kielar Carr ran the 400 and 800.

For the boys, Jason Burge was sixth in the 1600 and also ran the 800. Zeke Henson was third in the JV discus. Also competing were Chase Murk (long jump, 100, 200), Dylan Herrod (100, 200) and Ellis Hise (400).

In the youth meet at Santa Anna, the girls had Bailey Branham place third in the 100 and fifth in the 200, while Brynna Jackson was fifth in the 100 and sixth in the 200. Zaylee Smith was fourth in the 100, third in the 200, first in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Nevaeh Letney was third in the 100, fourth in the 50 and third in the high jump. Juliette Pittman was fifth in the 100, sixth in the 50 and fourth in the high jump.

For the boys, the 400 relay of Zayden Alexander, Jeremy Jiminez, Miles Sebree and Jessi Letney was third. Letney was also first in the high jump, second in the 400 and third in the 200. Ryker Yor was sixth in the 50 and fourth in the discus. Miles Sebree added second in the 200 and fourth in the 100. Jeremy Jiminez was fifth in the 400 and 6th in the 100 Alexander was seventh in the 100 and fifth in the 200.

Legend Sebree was third in the shot put, fourth in the discus, fifth in the 50 and sixth in the 100. Michael Courtney was seventh in the 100. Silas Ross was fifth in the 50 and seventh in the 100. Lloyd Carnahan was sixth in both the 100 and 200. Ember Claybourne was fourth in the 50. James Pittman was fourth in the high jump, 50 and 100.
