Chamber yearly meeting highlights growth, welcomes new leadership

By David H. Waller

The Albany Chamber of Commerce held its annual membership meeting on Friday at the Icehouse, with over 30 people in attendance to discuss the Chamber’s progress and plans for 2025. The meeting included the election of new officers, with Tisha Wilkins named president, Jana Kitchens as vice president, Robin Balliew as treasurer, and Kyra Krause as secretary.

A huge thank you was given to outgoing president Megaen Birdwell, who led the Chamber for the past two years. Under her leadership, the Chamber saw significant growth and success, strengthening its role in supporting local businesses and fostering community engagement.

The Chamber reflected on a year of growth in 2024, noting an increase in membership income from $14,000 to $19,000 and a 20+ membership increase from 2023. The Chamber’s social media engagement also expanded, reaching over 2,000 followers on Facebook, while its website saw 21,893 total views, with the Home page leading at 11,425 views. Additionally, the Chamber underwent a rebranding effort, unveiling a new logo and beginning work on an updated website to better serve the community and local businesses.

Throughout 2024, the Chamber played a key role in organizing community events such as the Membership Crawfish Boil, Lighted Christmas Parade, and a Community-Wide Cleanup. The Chamber also supported local businesses through Friday Chamber Lunches and community giveaways totaling $3,550 in prizes.

One of the most consistent opportunities for community connection has been the Friday Chamber Lunches, held every Friday at 12 p.m. at the Icehouse. While these gatherings often provide updates on local businesses and Chamber initiatives, they are open to everyone in town—not just Chamber members or business owners. The lunches serve as a welcoming space for anyone looking to stay informed about what’s happening in Albany, connect with community leaders, or simply enjoy a great meal in good company. The Chamber strongly encourages anyone who can attend to join and be part of the ongoing conversation that helps shape the community.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Chamber is implementing new membership levels to better serve the community. Rates include $50 for non-profits and retirees, $75 for individuals and families, and business memberships ranging from $150 to $300.

With a focus on continued growth and community engagement, the Chamber aims to build on the success of 2024 and further strengthen its role in promoting Albany.
