Collections continue for Toys for Tots

More than $400 was raised Saturday, Nov. 25 for the local Toys for Tots campaign during Small Town Saturday activities, with applications due this week.

Marine SSgt. Doug Beaty, who coordinates the local campaign in association withResourceCare, sold barbecue sandwiches andbowlsofchiliduringthe evening leading up to the Albany Lighted Christmas Parade.

Beaty said parade attendees helped keep him out of the elements as a light rain briefly graced the downtown area.

“Our first customer was waitingonmetogetitthere so she could eat,” he said. “Shewentandgotacanopy and brought it to us.”

Beaty was assisted by Kaiden Cameron.

“That family has been assisting me with Toys for Totssincethekidsweretoddlers,” Beatysaid.“They’ve sorted toys and done bags for Angel Tree. I asked Kaidenifhewantedtohelp, and he jumped right to it.”

Toys for Tots is one of several outreach programs ResourceCare oversees during the holidays. The program provides gifts for Albany children from infants through sixth grade.

Applications can be picked up at the Resource Carefrontdeskandaredue by 5:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1.

Beaty has toy collection boxessetupatAlbanyHigh School and Dollar General. Toys will be collected Sunday, Dec. 10.

“I’ve emptied the box at Dollar General once already,” he said. “The National Honor Society is raising money and collecting toys. I’ll collect that around Dec. 7 or 8.”

Adopt A Senior

ResourceCare has 50 senior citizens to adopt this year. Vittles by Vehicles recipients make up the majority of the adoptees.

To adopt a senior, call ResourceCare at 325-7622447.Thedeadlinetoadopt a senior is 5:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1.

Gifts are due by Friday, Dec. 15. Donors will be given a number when they receive their wish list. Gifts should be unwrapped with the number clearly visible.

Gifts will be passed out to participants on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

For those wanting to help without adopting, ResourceCare will accept Brookshire’s gift cards, or monetary donations may be sent to Adopt a Senior, c/o ResourceCare, PO Box 2435, Albany.

Alongwithpresents,ResourceCare will also send a food basket to each home.
