Lady Lions open with big win against Olney

The Albany Lady Lions basketball team notched its first win of the season Tuesday, Nov. 14, winning 49-12 at Olney.

The Lady Lions hosted Gorman Tuesday, Nov. 21. Results will be reported next week.

After taking Thanksgiving weekend off, the Lady Lions will host Abilene Christian on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The junior varsity game will tip off at 5:00 p.m.

At Olney, Ashlyn Holson pouredin27pointsandgrabbed nine rebounds to lead Albany (1-1). Kiana Roberson added 12 points and seven rebounds. The Lady Lions made 12 steals as a team, led by Holson with five.

“The defense played with good intensity and forced several turnovers,” Lady Lions coach Brad Stautzenberger said. “We held Olney scoreless in the second quarter. We also grabbed 17 defensive rebounds.”

Albany turned a 13-5 firstquarter lead into a 30-5 halftime advantage.’”Offensively, we scored in double figures in three of the four quarters,” Stautzenberger said. “Ashlyn did a great job of finding the basket.”

TheLadyLionsJVbeatOlney 35-8 before playing in the Abilene TLCATournament Friday-Saturday, Nov. 17-18, dropping two games to varsity teams.

On Friday, Albany beat the TLCA JV 34-3 before falling to Brookesmith 33-29. On Saturday, Albany lost to the TLCA varsity 42-29.

Zayne Lefevre scored 16 points in all four games.

The Lions JV opened its season at the TLCA tournament, going 0-3.

The JV boys will host theAlbanyJVtournament Nov. 30 and Dec. 2.

At TLCA,Albany lost to Blackwell 45-35, Brookesmith 52-47, and Roby 5329. Details of the Blackwell game were unavailable.

On Friday, several players also suited up for Albany’s area football playoff and saw action in the fourth quarter of the 56-0 victory over Celeste.
