7 Bulldogs named to all-district football team

Seven Moran Bulldogs accounted for 10 spots on the All-District 14-1ADivision II football team.

Junior Ellis Hise was a first-team selection at both quarterback and safety in additiontoearningacademic all-district honors. On offense, Hise rushed for 805 yards with 11 touchdowns, had 13 receptions for 108 yards with a score, and was 53of91passingfor583yards with six TDs. On defense, he hadteamhighswith77tackles and three interceptions.

Senior Caleb York was a first-team pick at wide receiver after catching 19 passesfor282yardsandfour TDs. He also rushed for 108 yards and two scores.

Senior Zech Henderson was named first-team punter and second-team defensive lineman. As a punter, he averaged 22.9 yards per attempt with five downed inside the 20. On defense, he had 28 tackles and recovered a fumble.

Junior Cotten Campbell was voted to the second team at tight end. He caught a team-high 20 passes for 112 yards.

Freshman Landon Moreno madethesecondteamasa spreadcenterandlinebacker. He caught 13 passes for 124 yards and two TDs, while making 43 tackles and two interceptions on defense.

Freshman Garrett Hamilton was selected as the second-teamspreadback.He was 38 of 82 passing for 322 yards and three TDs.

Junior Blake Boykin was picked for the second team at safety, making 20 tackles and blocking two kicks.

High School Basketball The Moran Lady Bulldogs dropped their first two games of the season, falling 41-24 to Paint Creek on Tuesday, Nov. 7, and 28-12 to Gustine on Friday, Nov. 10.

TheLadyBulldogsplayed Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Blanket. Results will be reported next week.

On Friday, Nov. 17, Moran visits Mullin with the boys team opening its season.

Against Paint Creek, the girls fell behind 14-4 in the firstquarterbeforepostingan 18-16 edge over the next two periods. LeAnna Sikes had 10 points, seven rebounds, and four steals for Moran. Maekayla Kersey had six points, five rebounds, and six steals. Kielar Carr had four points, 11 rebounds, and five steals. Kacenda Thompkins scored four points.

At Gustine, Moran made just two field goals. Carr scored seven points, all on free throws. Sikes and Katie Breeden each scored two points, and Thompkins scored one. Sikes grabbed 14 rebounds and four steals. Thompkins had five steals.

Jr. High Basketball

Moran’s junior high teams opened their seasons Thursday, Nov. 9, against Cross Plains and played Rising Star on Monday, Nov. 13.

The girls team lost to Cross Plains 46-8. Lizzie Creek scored six points for Moran,andAmeliaYorkhad two. The girls lost to Rising Star 36-2. Kelsey Rust scored two pints.

The boys team lost to Cross Plains 39-12. Christian Rodriguez scored six points with Aiden Otwell and James Hise each scoring two. Otwell scored the only points in a 39-2 loss to Rising Star.
