Jr. high basketball teams open season Monday

TheAlbanyJuniorHigh Cubs and Lady Cubs basketball teams opened their seasons Monday, Nov. 13, winning three of fourgamesagainstAbilene Christian.

The teams return to action Monday, Nov. 20 against Cisco. The boys will be at home with the girls playing at Cisco. Games at both locations start at 5:30 p.m.

Against Abilene Christian, the seventh grade girls won 36-2, while the eighth grade girls lost 34-9 in games played atAlbany. In boys games at Abilene, the seventh grade won 53-3 and the eighth grade won 30-18.

Seventh Grade Girls TheseventhgradeLady Cubs held ACS scoreless until the fourth quarter. Albany led 14-0 in the first quarter and 23-0 at halftime.

“The girls came out aggressive and created several steals they were able to capitalize on,” coach Lauren Peacock said. “For their first game, I thought they did well and worked extremely hard. Keeley Britting was solid down low and was able to get in position to get several rebounds for us.”

Britting led Albany with 15 points, and Tinley Hefner added 11. Hailey GleitzandKynleeMilligan scored four points apiece, and Avery Gleitz added two points.

Eighth Grade Girls Albany’s eighth grade girls started slowly, trailing 12-0 after one quarter and 18-2 at halftime.

Charli Trail scored six points to lead the Lady Cubs.MackenzeeRoysdon scored two points, and Sawyer Shoaf had one.

Roysdon and Shoaf are seventh graders playing up a grade level since the team has just five eighth graders.

Seventh Grade Boys Just like the seventh grade girls, the seventh grade boys held ACS scoreless untilthefourthquarter.

Albany led 16-0 after the first quarter and 27-0 at the half. The Cubs scored nine points in the fourth quarter, the only period in which they did not reach double figures.

Lyle Wheeler led the Cubs with 14 points with Blake Britting adding 10. The duo combined for 18 points in the first half.

Jathan Perez scored nine points, followed by Ace Townson with six, Henry Wright with five, Sam Tidwell with four, Levi Murphy with three, and Ben Russell with two.

Eighth Grade Boys Albany eighth graders jumped out to an early lead and held on over the final three quarters. The Cubs held a 10-2 edge after the first quarter, then outscored ACS by four points over the last three.

BennettNeeceandClay Chapman scored 13 points apiece to lead Albany. Aiden Vickers scored four points.
