Funds needed for programs

The start of the holiday season means the start of numerous campaigns supported by the Albany Ministerial Alliance and ResourceCare to benefit local residents.

Applications for and funding of programs providing for children through senior adults are being accepted.

Toys For Tots

Marine SSgt. Doug Beaty coordinates the local Toys for Tots campaign, which provides gifts for Albany children from infants through sixth grade, working through the Resource Center.

Applications can be picked up at the front desk of ResourceCare and are due by 5:00 p.m. Dec. 1.

Beaty has toy collection boxessetupatAlbanyHigh School and Dollar General. Toys will be collected Sunday, Dec. 10.

Beaty will again serve barbecue sandwiches Saturday, Nov. 25 during the Christmas Parade.

Believe Tree

The Feed Store accepts donations for Believe Tree for Teens, which provides gifts for approximately 40 junior high and high school students in Shackelford County each year.

The teens can be enrolled in the program by either their parents or by a school counselor. Applications are available from BrittneyHarmonatAlbany ISD,JoHiseatMoranISD, or ResourceCare.

The deadline for Believe Tree for Teens applications is Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Treeswillbedeliveredto local churches by Sunday, Nov. 19. Gifts are due back by Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Adopt A Senior

ResourceCare has 15 individuals left to adopt this year out of 50 total.

Vittles by Vehicles recipients make up the majority of the adoptees.

Toadoptasenior,callthe front desk of ResourceCare at325-762-2447.Thedeadline to adopt a senior is 5:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1.

Gifts are due at ResourceCare by Friday, Dec. 15. Donors will be given a number when they receive their wish list. Gifts should be unwrapped with the number clearly visible.

Gifts will be passed out to participants on Dec. 20.

For those wanting to help without adopting, ResourceCare will accept Brookshire’s gift cards, or monetary donations may be sent to Adopt a Senior, c/o ResourceCare, PO Box 2435, Albany.

Alongwithpresents,ResourceCare will also send a food basket to each home. AlbanyIndependentSchool District has collected more than 3,000 cans of food.

Christmas Baskets The annual food drive, sponsored by the Albany Ministerial Alliance, strives to provide a box filled with the ingredients needed for a traditional holiday meal to families in need of assistance.

Applications are available at local churches and The Albany News.

Deadlines and delivery dates are to be announced.

Donations can be handed to any minister in the Alliance or mailed to the Ministerial Alliance, PO Box3084,AlbanyTX76430.

Pie Sales

ResourceCare is taking orders for Thanksgiving pies to benefit its Christmas outreach programs.

Piesare$25each.Choices are pumpkin, pecan, or buttermilk. Pies will be wrappedwithafallbowand tagged. All pies and crusts are homemade.

Deadline to order is 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15. Orders will be ready Tuesday-Wednesday, Nov. 21-22. To order, contact Mindy Ary, Ragan Riley, or Makenzie Marshall at 325-762-2447.
