Junior high Cubs sweep Roscoe

TheAlbanyJuniorHigh Cubs football teams swept theirgamesThursday,Oct. 19 at Roscoe, with the seventh grade winning 30-0 andtheeighthgrade42-32.

The teams will combine efforts for one game at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 (today) at Hamlin. The last time the teams combined, Albany defeated Miles 3612 on Oct. 5.

Seventh Grade

TheseventhgradeCubs recorded their first full shutout of the season against Roscoe. On Sept. 7, the seventh grade held Seymour scoreless for two quarters.

Lyle Wheeler ran for Albany’s first two touchdowns, runningfortheconversion after the second, to give the Cubs a 14-0 lead.

Blake Briiting caught a touchdown pass from Wheeler,withSamTidwell pulling in the conversion pass to make the score 22-0.

Britting added a rushing touchdownwithWheeler passing to Trevor Bellah for the conversion to close the scoring.

Eighth Grade

The eighth grade Cubs overcame a first-half deficit to take the victory.

Clay Chapman ran for Albany’s first score. After Roscoe pulled even at 6-6, Bennett Neece ran for a TD, and Graham Ceder caught Chapman’s conversion pass for a 14-6 lead.

Roscoe scored the next two touchdowns, failing on both conversion attempts, to take an 18-14 lead, but Chapman returned a kickoff to put the Cubs back in front 20-18 going into halftime.

Chapman’s second rushing TD and another conversion pass to Ceder increased Albany’s lead to 28-18. Roscoe answered and successfully converted to close within 28-26.

Albany put the game away as Chapman ran for another TD and caught a conversion pass from Aiden Vickers. After Roscoe scored to make it 36-32, Chapman passed to Vickers for the final touchdown.
