Runners end season at regional

Albany’s Ashlyn Miller and Jonathan Coody wrapped up the cross country season Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Region II-2A meet at Grand Prairie.

Miller, a freshman, put herself among young runners to watch by finishing 32nd out of 166 runners in the girls race. She covered thetwo-milecourseatLynn Creek Park in a personalbest time of 13 minutes, 16.61 seconds.

The top four teams and top 10 individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the Class 2A state meet. Removing team qualifiers from the equation moved Miller up to 17th among individual entries. She finished about 25 seconds behind the 10th individual qualifier, Sadie Soto of MeritBland,whowas22nd overall.

Miller was seventh among freshmen who qualified for regional and fifth among District 10-2A qualifiers.

Coody, making his third regional appearance, finished almost exactly in the middle of the pack – 73rd out of 145 runners. He covered 5,000 meters in 20:38.48.

Coody was 10th among district representatives.

District 10-2A had two teams and one individual qualify for state. The Stamford girls finished third in the team standings with Haskell’s Asia Billington seventh individually. The Hawleyboysfinishedfourth in the team standings.
