Albany News

First Christian Church of Albany is again conducting an Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection.

The drive started Sunday, Oct. 22 and will continue through Tuesday, Nov. 14.

First Christian pastor Brad McBee said shoeboxes may be brought to the church. He will then deliver all shoeboxes to Abilene.

“We’ll drop them off at First Baptist Church of Abilene on that date,” McBee said.

The shoebox gifts are filled with fun toys, school supplies, and hygiene items to share God’s love with millions of boys and girls around the world through the Samaritan’s Purse project. Donors are also asked to contribute $9 per box to cover the costs of shipping.

“It will be pretty much the same as in the past,” McBee said, “just things that will make children happy.”

McBee said items such as toothbrushes, fingernail files, and nail clippers are especially appreciated.

Shoeboxes are available at the church and may be picked up during regular business hours or on Sunday morning.

Because the boxes are distributed around the world, participants should read the list of items that shouldnotbeincluded, and avoid packing things that are not allowed through customs and/or may not be appropriate for some children.
