Moran jr. high XC runners finish 2nd as team

The Moran Junior High boys cross country team finishedsecondintheteam standings at the District 13-1A meet, run Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Eula.

Moran scored 48 points to finish behind Eula.

“Having a team, finishing, and placing was very exciting,” coach Jo Hise said. “None of us was expecting to place as a team, so that was a good bonus for the day.”

Andy Barron earned an individual medal by placing ninth in 14:37. He was followed by Jason Burge (17th, 16:35), James Hise (18th, 17:08), Christian Rodriguez (20th, 17:14), and Dylan Herod (21st, 17:18).

In the varsity divisions, DannyO’Keefeplaced11th in the boys race with a time of 28:07. Jayla Bussell was 22nd in the girls race with 17:51.

Volleyball

Moran opened District 14-1AplayTuesday,Oct.10 with a 20-25, 16-25, 23-25 loss to Rising Star.

“We came out strong and really finished strong, we just couldn’t put together the last points,” Jo Hise said.

Moran played Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Strawn. Results will be reported next week.

In junior high matches against Rising Star, Moran’s Gold team lost 6-25, 6-25, while the Purple team lost 7-25, 7-25.

The junior high teams combined forces to play in the seventh grade B bracket at the Dublin tournament.

“We got to sub people in and out,” Hise said.

Moran lost 6-15, 8-15 to Comanche in the first round and 9-15, 1-15 to Dublininitssecondmatch.

The junior high teams finished their season Tuesday at Strawn.

Football

The Moran Bulldogs open District 14-1A Division II at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at Panther Creek. Moran (2-5) is looking to end a three-game losing streak.

“We’re looking at Panther Creek and Paint Rock being games we might be able to pull off,” Bulldogs coach John Hues said. “If we don’t, we’ll play Rising Star, be done, and move on to basketball.”

School News

Moran FFA has seven members competing at the State Fair of Texas this week.

Caleb York, Ellis Hise, and Cotten Campbell have theiragmechanicsprojects entered. York, Zech Henderson, Kacenda Thompkins, MaeKayla Kersey, and Landon Herrell are showing heifers.

Next week, Moran will observe Red Ribbon Week with dress-up days.

Moran will hold fall district Title I meetings for parents at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27 and 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 before Trunk or Treat.
