Hawley game moved to Merkel

The Albany Lady Lions kept pace in the District 6-2A volleyball racelastweek,sweeping Bangs on the road before taking an open date to prepare for the stretch drive.

TheLadyLions(28-5overall, 5-1 district) returned to action Tuesday, Oct. 17, by hosting Coleman for its Pink Out Night and winning/losing 25-7, 25-12, 25-9. Details will be reported next week.

All concession stand sales and donations from the Pink Out will benefit Adalyn Kirby, a student at Nancy Smith Elementary Schoolwhoisbattling cancer.

On Saturday, Oct. 21, Albany will play Hawley with a chance to pull into a tie for first place in the district standings. Lady Lions coach M.J. Reneau said the match has been moved to Merkel because of ongoing repairs to the Hawley gym.

Albany will wrap up the regular season Tuesday, Oct. 24 with Senior Night against Ranger. There will be no junior varsity match, but two junior high matches will precede the varsity contest.

Reneau announced the addition of a warmup match against Breckenridge at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, the Lady Lions started the second half of the district schedule by defeating Bangs 25-19, 25-15, 25-21.

“They were good games,” Reneau said. “We played really well. I felt like all of the girls played solid, and we’re coming together at the right time.”

Kiana Roberson led Albany with 14 kills and two blocks. Caroline Holson had 10 kills with Callan Edgar adding five.

Abi Hale recorded 37 assists. Five Lady Lions reached double figures in digs with Holson getting 22. Robin Lucas had 18 with Roberson getting 17, followed by Brooklyn Abbate with 14 and Hale with 11.

Albany also had another solid serving performance with Roberson hitting five aces among 16 points. Holson had 14 points with three aces, and Lucas had 14 points with three aces.
