Williams ranch receives award
The Williams Family of Callahan County was recognized during the the annual Callahan-Shackelford Farm Bureau County convention on Oct. 4 in Clyde.
The last time a Cal-Shack farm family was honored was in 2019 when Gerald and Ruby Petree of Shackelford County were presented the award.
Kelly Head of Albany was also honored during the meeting. Head, who has served three terms, is retiring from the Cal-Shack board of directors
Since the mid-1800s, five generations of Williams have conducted ranching operations in Callahan County. Bruce Williams, patriarch of the family, received the award on behalf of his grandfather Robert Donnell, father RD, son David and grandson Rustin. Over the years, ranching operations have encompassed cow-calf, cross breeding, and yearlings, along with farming wheat and hay grazer. David served several terms on the Cal-Shack Farm Bureau board of directors, and Rustin is currently a member of the board. The Williams Family has impacted agriculture in Callahan County for countless years in many significant ways.
During the short business meeting of the evening, new board members were elected. Brief reports were also given on budget, membership, and youth and charitable activities supported by the organization. The annual event is a time when farm bureau members gather, enjoy fellowship and a meal, and win door prizes.
