Entry deadlines for major fall stock shows are approaching with Shackelford County students planning to exhibit a number of animals.

Albany FFA advisor Chris Beard has set preliminary deadlines to allow him time to make sure entries are correctly submitted.

Beard is asking that entries for the State Fair of Texas in Dallas and Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo in Waco be in to him by Friday, Aug. 19.

The State Fair of Texas will run Sept. 30-Oct. 23, while the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo is scheduled for Oct. 6-16.

“Things are about to get going,” Beard said.

Beard has set deadlines for other projects for Friday, Aug. 26.

“After school starts, I will hand out applications for the West Texas Fair and Rodeo calf scramble,” he said. “They will be due Friday, Aug. 26.”

Also on that date, sheep and goat state validations are to be ordered.

Entry deadline for the West Texas Fair and Rodeo has already passed, but Beard said all local exhibitors who planned to enter did so. Albany will have 15 students exhibiting about 25 animal projects – cattle, swine, rabbits, and goats – at the fair.

The West Texas Fair and Rodeo will run Sept. 8-17 in Abilene.

Beard said other deadlines will be announced later.

“Pig tag orders will be made in September,” he said. “We’ll have the pig sale, and the pig tag order for state will need to completed. We’ll order heifer tags in October for our spring heifers.”
