Let’s Create!

Fun and facts about Greece will kick off the Old Jail Art Center’s annual summer camps for kids next Wednesday, Aug. 3, with three spots open for students in grades 1-6.
There are also two openings for the Aug. 9 safari camp for grades 1-3.
Participants need to be registered for the remaining places for the on-site events by this Friday, July 29, according to OJAC education director Erin Whitmore.
Parents can register their children at theojac.org or call the Old Jail Art Center at 325-762-2936 for questions and information. Forms can also be picked up at the museum.
Children of OJAC members can participate free, with a $15 per-camper cost for non-members.
It is too late to sign up for the virtual camps because materials had to be mailed by now. The kits will have supplies and materials for each day of instruction, as well as a password for participants to access that camp video.
The Old Jail is offering both in-person and virtual options this summer after having only virtual camps in both 2020 and 2021 because of COVID concerns.
For all three on-site classes, to be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., participants are reminded to bring sack lunches.
Workshop Schedule
Aug. 3 – Cultural Connections Camp: Greece. On-site and virtual. Campers, grades 1-6, will learn about the culture, music, food, and art of Greece.
Aug. 5 – Re-Create! On-site only. Grades 4-6 campers will find artistic re-uses of found and recycled materials.
Aug.9 – OJAC Safari! On-site only. Students in grades 1-3 will spend a “wild day” of crafts and games for early-learners, inspired by animals of the museum collection.
Aug. 10-12– Things on Strings: Puppet Workshop Online only. Students will design and construct their own puppets while guided by professional puppeteers.
