Last STEM camp set next Tuesday
By Sam Waller
The second date for the Shackelford County 4-H STEM camp was cancelled because of COVID-19 cases in the family of Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell, but at press time, leaders were still hoping to conduct the July 26 event.
Bell said with her staying home to care for family members and Kelli Kreitler out of town, there weren’t enough adult leaders available to conduct this week’s session.
“Kristie Smith was going to help me, and she didn’t have time to do all the prep and everything else she had going on,” Bell said. “I hated to do it, but we had to call it.”
The STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) camps were scheduled for three consecutive Tuesdays, starting July 12. The first session was cancelled because of low registration and staffing issues.
Bell said the Tuesday, July 26 session is still planned for 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Feed Store.
“We’re planning to go ahead with STEM next week,” Bell said. “Kelli will be back and is going to head that up.”
Bell said the possibility of conducting another session before the start of the school year is being considered.
“We are discussing maybe going into that first week of August,” she said. “I need to see what the Old Jail has planned to avoid any conflicts.”
Art Club
Bell said the Shackelford County 4-H Art Club’s schedule will not be affected and will continue weekly meetings at 1:00 p.m. Thursdays through Aug. 4.
“We should be good to go for Art Club,” Bell said. “Heather Nitschke leads that. They’re still planning to go ahead with art on Thursday (today).”
