King, Queen named at 2022 prom
By Melinda L. Lucas
Sara Smith and Rylan Roberson were crowned queen and king during the Albany High School Junior-Senior Prom held Saturday, April 9 at the Whitney Theatre.
Nominees for prom queen included Tristen Brown, Sarah Cotter, Avery Kleiner, and Smith. Prom king nominees were Ty Everitt, Cooper Fairchild, Brooks Neece, and Roberson.
Smith, a lifelong resident of Albany who started classes at Stepping Stones Christian School, plans to attend Cisco College after graduation to study nursing.
She has been an avid softball player throughout high school and helped her team reach the playoffs as a freshman and junior. The 2020 season was cut short by the pandemic. Smith was given honorable mention all-district last spring.
When she’s not playing softball, the local senior stays busy working and raising her daughter, 15-month-old Bexley.
This year’s Prom King is the son of Brittany Davis and stepdad Travis Komma, and Sedrick and Missy Roberson.
He plans to attend Texas Tech University to major in creative media.
Roberson, who has lived in Albany his entire life, designed last year’s Albany High School yearbook.
He has played football all four years of high school, earning a spot on the all-district first team this last season.
A member of Friendship Baptist Church, Roberson was named as a “Student of the Six Weeks” earlier in the school year.
