The Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ Weekend of Champions boys camp drew 94 campers from eighth grade through high school for the Feb. 18-20 gathering at Eastland’s Solid Rock Encampment, including some from Albany.

FCA organizer Paul Johnston of Albany said the program featured speakers and activities geared for teen boys.

“We had a great crowd, and the speakers were great,” Johnston said. “They talked to the kids about character and integrity and what it means to be a Christian young man.”

Johnston said the camp drew participants from as far east as Van, as far north as Benjamin and as far west as Snyder.

“There were 16 boys who accepted Christ and 39 that rededicated,” he said. “These kids come from all different denominations, not just a certain one.”

Big Country FCA will hold its 22nd annual Drive For Champions Golf Fellowship Friday, March 26, at Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene.

The four-person scramble will have morning (8:00 a.m.) and afternoon (1:30 p.m.) tee times.

Proceeds are used to provide scholarships for coaches and athletes to attend FCA summer camps.

For information or to enter, contact Andy Penney at apenney@fca.org or 806-577-2537.

Johnston said the next FCA events will be in June. The Big Country Chevy Dealers 2022 FCA All-Star Festival is scheduled for June 4-7. More than 325 athletes representing 88 high schools will compete in basketball, baseball, football, golf, softball, and volleyball in addition to cheerleaders at venues in Brownwood, Eastland, San Angelo and Abilene.

Later in the month, the Big Country FCA will conduct its  summer leadership camp.
