93% of county taxes collected by deadline
By Melinda L. Lucas
Close to 93 percent of the 2021 tax levy had been collected as of Jan. 31, according to chief appraiser Clayton Snyder at the Shackelford County Central Appraisal District (CAD) office, with eligible payments coming in for couple of weeks in February.
Official CAD reports show that $8,373,707 of the $9,012,678 total levy, or 92.96 percent, had come in before the deadline.
The totals are right in line, in fact slightly higher, than average collection percentages for the last few years.
The chief appraiser also reported that CAD personnel recently sent out rendition notices and some of those are beginning to come back, with a cutoff date of April 15, unless taxpayers request a 15-day extension in writing.
Collection Totals
In the latest report, Albany ISD had brought in 93.25 percent of the 2021 tax levy.
The taxes collected for Shackelford County on the same date were 93.72 percent of the total 2021 levy.
The Shackelford County Hospital District had received payments totaling 93.58 percent.
The City of Albany has collected 89.89 percent.
Moran ISD had collected 88.60 percent.
The City of Moran, the smallest entity, had collected 78.92 percent.
Property owners who did not pay their 2021 taxes on time are being charged penalty and interest on an accumulating scale.
