Jr. high teams split games

The Albany Junior High basketball teams split four games Monday against Hawley, winning one girls and one boys contest.

At home, the Lady Cubs Red team won  44-17, while the White team lost 30-12.

In boys action at Hawley, the eighth grade Cubs won 38-15, while the seventh graders lost 35-23. The boys Combo game was cancelled.

The junior high teams return to action Monday, Dec. 6, against Hamlin. The girls teams will again play at home with the boys on the road for the third consecutive week.

Girls Red Team

Albany scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed.

The Lady Cubs led 16-4 at the end of the first quarter and 22-4 at halftime,

Caroline Chapman scored a game-high 16 points, hitting four of Albany’s six 3-pointers. Alli McDaniel added eight points.

Kaisley Bartee finished with five points, while Zayne Lefevre, Braylee Clark, and Mimi Ivy each scored four. Madison Parrott rounded out the scoring with three points.

Girls White Team

Hawley jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held a 12-4 advantage at halftime. The Lady Bearcats then outscored the Lady Cubs 18-8 in the second half.

Amber Miramontes scored eight points to lead Albany, with Charlee Hefner scoring four.

Boys Eighth Grade

All five Albany starters scored with three players finishing in double figures.

Cade Fairchild, who made three 3-pointers, and Huffman Heatly each scored 11 points with Brody Oliver adding 10. Lane Helle finished with four points, while Mason McCloy scored two.

Heatly scored nine points in the first quarter  as the Cubs took an 11-0 lead. Albany led 20-0 at halftime before outscoring Hawley 8-2 in the third quarter.

Boys Seventh Grade

Albany trailed by two points entering the fourth quarter before Hawley pulled away.

The Bearcats led 9-5 after one period and 13-9 at halftime. The Cubs closed to within 21-19 with a 10-8 edge in the third quarter, but Hawley scored 14 points in the fourth.

Zane Green led the Cubs with nine points, while Sam Vickers and Wesley Gleitz added six points apiece. Connor Smith scored two points.
