For the past two decades, ResourceCare’s Adopt-a-Buddy program has helped make sure in-need students in Shackelford County are supplied with the school supplies they are required to have for the start of a new school year.

This year’s supply packages will be distributed from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12 at the Albany Youth Center, according to ResourceCare case manager Makenzie Marshall.

While ResourceCare has this year’s supplies ready for distribution, Marshall said the program will continue to accept contributions.

“If anyone would like to donate glue sticks, wide-rule paper or disinfectant wipes, that would be great,” she said. “We’ve had some contributions, but we can use those items year-round. Backpacks are also good to have on hand.”

The Adopt-a-Buddy program is open to all students in Shackelford County, Marshall said.

“Each grade has a list of school supplies that are needed for the year,” she said. “We fill the whole list for each applicant.”

Donations may be sent to ATTN Adopt-a-Buddy, PO Box 2435, Albany, Texas 76430 or dropped off at Albany’s ResourceCare office at 725 Pate St.
