FFA judging season begins
By Sandy Morris
Albany FFA judging teams are working hard to get ready for upcoming Career Development Event (CDE) contests this month.
Local teams will compete in farm business management, horse judging, vet tech science, range and pasture, livestock, and wildlife.
Wildlife Contest
The Albany FFA Wildlife team competed at the Anson Invitational contest on Monday, March 1.
AHS placed seventh out of 22 teams in the competition to kick off the spring CDE season.
Participants included Ty Everitt, Cade Neve, Jackson Chapman, and Brodey Jones.
AHS ag teacher and FFA sponsor Chris Beard said the students did a great job studying for this first test.
“The team really hasn’t been able to get outside and study wildlife and plant identification due to the bad weather and stock shows, plus most plants haven’t even come up yet,” said Beard. “The students have had to study booklets and go over plants on the computer.”
Beard said his students will continue to get better as they study and are able to get outside.
“This was great practice for the students,” Beard said.
Upcoming Contests
The FFA judging teams will travel to Cisco College to compete on Monday, March 22.
The next event is the Tarleton Invitational on Thursday, March 25.
FFA speaking events will be held in April.
