Members of the Albany High School Band took a trip last week to prepare for contest and to have some fun.

AHS band director Will Vaughan said the group went to Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine on Thursday, March 4 and Friday, March 5 and had fun in the water both days.

“On Friday, we had a clinic with John Mize, a successful Dallas-area band director,” Vaughan said. “He also worked with the band in October, and he was very impressed with the improvements in playing and how much more maturity they showed in rehearsal now than earlier in the year.”

Vaughan also said the trip was an opportunity for the musicians to grow closer and develop better friendships within the band.

The AHS band will attend the UIL Concert and Sightreading contest March 30-April 1 at Abilene Wylie.

The band will perform Band in the Square by La Plante, Joy by Ticheli, and Pinnacle by Grice, and will then be given a piece to sight read and perform.
