Closet Angels hosted a fundraiser to benefit Albany resident Kristi Brooker on Monday, Feb. 8, raising a total of $252.

Brooker is currently undergoing treatment for stage four breast cancer, and the fundraiser was held to help Brooker keep her health insurance.

Closet Angels director and fundraiser organizer Lori Reames thanked everyone who participated in the event.

“A man flagged me down on Main Street to donate money, and several people came by just to make a donation,” said Reames. “It was such a wonderful, feel-good day seeing everyone come together to help. We had a steady stream of shoppers who were so appreciative of the opportunity to shop for their families and to be able to prepare for the changing weather.”

Reames also said six briskets were donated for another fundraiser to benefit Brooker, but the event has been postponed due to the recent cold weather.

Shopping Hours

Reames said residents may shop at Closet Angels on Mondays from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. but suggests making an appointment.

“People can call or text me at 325-721-8620 to make an appointment,” said Reames. “They also can drive to the back door and ask if there is room for them to come in and shop.”

Volunteers will continue to monitor how many people are in each room, and Reames added that there is a sign-in sheet to keep track of the shoppers in case the facility is faced with any known Covid-19 cases.

Shoppers will be accommodated on Wednesday evenings from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. if there are volunteers available to help.
