Moran basketball teams finish season this week

The Moran varsity girls and boys basketball teams both traveled to Eula on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and Rising Star on Friday, Feb. 5 for district play. 

Lady Bulldog 

Basketball

The Lady Bulldogs lost their contest with Eula 60-20.

Leading scorer for the game was Hannah Noble with six points, Dariann Hawley with five points, Johnnie Hise with four points, Hannah Rogers with three points, and Alli Scott with two points. 

Rising Star

The varsity girls basketball team lost a close game with Rising Star 28-22. 

Noble was the leading scorer with 10 points, followed by Hawley with seven points, Emily Murk with three points, and Scott with two points. 

This was the last game of the season for the Lady Bulldogs, leaving them with a record of 1-15 for the season and 0-10 in district. 

Varsity Boys

Basketball

The Bulldogs lost their bout with Eula 52-16.

Leading scorer for the Bulldogs was Corey Miller with seven points, and Caleb York and Aaren Hawley with four points each. 

Rising Star

The varsity Bulldogs fell to Rising Star 59-32.

Hawley was the leading scorer with 14 points, followed by Miller with 10 points, Connor Hail with six points, and York with two points.  

The loss puts the Bulldog’s record at 0-8 in district. 

The Bulldogs were scheduled to travel to May on Tuesday, Feb. 9 and will host Baird at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.

Junior High 

Basketball

The junior high girls and boys teams wrapped up their season in Rising Star on Monday, Feb. 8.

The junior high girls came away with a win over Rising Star 25-20.

Cassandra Mendez was the leading scorer with 10 points, followed by Ashlyn Crawford with eight points, Leanna Sikes with four points, and Kacenda Thompkins with three points.

The junior high girls season record was 2-2. 

The junior high boys game lost their final game of the season to Rising Star 48-14.

Ellis Hise led the scoring with 10 points, and Cotten Campbell had four points. 

The Moran junior high boys record was 1-8 for the season.
