FCA girls camp draws 40 youth

The Big Country chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosted the first event in their annual Weekend of Champions this past Saturday, Jan. 23.
This year the Weekend of Champions camps were designed to be a one-day only event with the girls gathering at the Solid Rock Christian Camp in Eastland.
FCA Big Country East representative Paul Johnston said the day was an amazing experience.
“It was wonderful to see the way the girls bonded,” said Johnston. “They really listened to the speakers and asked great questions.”
Johnston said there were 65 people in attendance with approximately 40 girls present.
The all-female event included four speakers and three personal testimonies, plus a live band for the worship portion of the day.
Johnston said the feedback from the attendees was all positive.
“The main thing we heard from the girls was ‘When is this scheduled for next year?’” said Johnston.
Area boys get their chance to have the same experience this weekend as their all-male event is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Beltway South in Abilene.
Johnston once again stressed that this event is not only for athletes and is open to all interested area high school boys.
“The hope of FCA is to present high school students with what it looks like to pursue godliness in various aspects of their lives as young men and women,” said Johnston.
While there is a $40 charge to attend the event, scholarship funds are available to cover the cost.
“When a student goes to register, all they need to do is click the option for a scholarship, and their fee will be covered,” Johnston said.
“The boys can expect great food and giveaways at their event,” Johnston said. “But the most important thing we will offer is adults ministering to the kids on how to make Godly decisions and how to become Godly young men.”
